If you are going to use a corded telephone in your home it pays to think about where you are going to put it. You will have to bear in mind where your phone socket is, although you can get an extension lead if you want to put the phone elsewhere.
The main thing to remember is where you are going to use it the most. Where do you tend to go when you are indoors? Do you stay in the kitchen for much of the time? Do you go in the lounge? Or is there another room you spend most of the time in? Wherever you put it you won’t be in that room all the time. But if you have it in the most convenient spot it will make life easier in the long run.
Next you need to think about whether you will be comfortable if you happen to be on the phone for a while. For example you might decide to call a friend and spend an hour talking to them. If you are going to have to spend the entire call standing up you aren’t going to be very comfortable by the end of the call.
In this situation you might want to place your phone near the sofa in the lounge if this is the room you have in mind for what you need. For example you might be happy to sit back and relax on the sofa while you are talking to someone. On the other hand if you have your phone in the dining room, make sure you can comfortably sit at the table while you talk.
Some people have a corded phone in their hallway, and if the room is big enough you might want to invest in a telephone table which has a built in seat as well. These also tend to have a drawer in which you can put a phone book, notepad and pen, so you always have what you are likely to need close at hand.
You can see that planning ahead is a good thing when you have a corded phone rather than a cordless one. Even if you use it in addition to having a cordless or mobile phone, having it situated where it will be of most use is the best way to make the most of it.
